Mesh Radio Explained

Mesh radios are an innovative and powerful way to stay connected when cell towers, Wi-Fi, and walkie talkies can’t reach you. Instead of relying on a tower or satellite, these small, rugged devices link together to form their own network. Each unit talks to the next, passing your message along until it reaches its destination. This makes it possible to cover huge properties, broken terrain, and remote backcountry without expensive infrastructure or spotty coverage.

THE PIECES

Every mesh network is made up of two essential pieces of hardware: Client Nodes and Repeater Nodes. These two components differ slightly in function but work together to create a comprehensive network, receiving and repeating encrypted data packets throughout the network. Whether it’s texts, voice memos, GPS coordinates or even customized programming, the data that circulates your network stays in your network. No wires or towers, just small sustainable devices that keep you connected on your own terms.

Client nodes

Client Nodes serve as your personal device, keeping you connected to the mesh network. Simply pair the node with your phone through bluetooth in the Jackalope app and you’re good to go.

These low-power USB-C charged devices send and receive signals from the other mesh units, expanding coverage and keeping every corner connected. Once connected to the app, you will be able to send out messages from anywhere within line of sight of other nodes. In addition to that, your live GPS coordinates will be displayed on a map within the app for all to see. Whether you’re facing an emergency deep in the wilderness or just looking for reliable communication off the grid, these nodes will keep you connected and protected.

Coming Soon: We are currently developing a push to talk feature in our app to enable voice communication

Repeaters

Repeater Nodes on the other hand, serve as fixed devices purposed with distributing and repeating messages from receivers all across the network. These are your cell towers, without the financial or environmental burdens.

The Repeaters are solar powered, designed to be set up once and then left out to serve your network as long as you desire with little to no maintenance. Repeaters are strategically placed around your property, ensuring that receivers will always have line of sight with at least one of them. With proper coverage, you will never be out of signal, as your messages will always be able to ping around the network. The number of repeaters required for your land has less to do with sq. mileage and more to do with the variability of your terrain. No matter what your land looks like, our expert analysis will guarantee the proper fitting. No dead spots, just comprehensive coverage that goes above and beyond your needs.

Check out exactly how we map out your repeater network:Portfolio

  • Our system builds a private, long-range mesh network that covers more ground than walkie talkies and doesn’t require pricey satellite plans. Once set up, it keeps you connected without cell service or extra fees. Mesh networks allow communication across all lands, no matter how variable the terrain may be.

  • It depends on your property’s size and layout. We help you figure that out during planning to make sure every corner stays covered.

  • Depending on terrain and placement, your network can span as far as you’d like. The custom layout of your network will be built around making sure you’re never out of range.

  • Yes, at Jackalope we believe in building our product to fit the client, as no two jobs are the same. The Jackalope system also has the ability to be more than just a stream of communication. GPS tracking, and an in-development push to talk feature are just two examples of the many ways the Jackalope network can be tailored to all needs.
